A step-by-step guide to getting your Ohio driver's license, from your temporary permit all the way to the road test.
Study for the Ohio Temporary Driver’s Permit Test using the Ohio driver manual
Take (and pass) the Ohio Temporary Permit Test at any Ohio Driver testing location:
Required documents: SSN Card, Birth Certificate, Permanent Resident Card, or USCIS documents
Apply for and pay for the Ohio Temporary Permit at any Ohio licensing location (approx. $27.00)
Required documents: SSN Card, Birth Certificate or Permanent Resident Card, or USCIS documents, and two proofs of residency (utility bill, bank statement, high school transcript, etc.)
Use the 50-hour log and affidavit or download the RoadReady Ohio App to start documenting your temporary permit driving hours.
Select a State of Ohio-licensed driving school to complete state requirements based on your situation
Complete the State of Ohio driver education requirements based on your situation (theory and behind the wheel)
Be issued a State of Ohio Certificate of Driver Education Completion
Make an appointment with a State of Ohio-approved testing location to take the Ohio Drivers test once fully eligible and pass both maneuverability and road portions of the test
Apply and pay for a State of Ohio Drivers license at any Ohio licensing location ($27.50)
